INEZ DE BRAUW

'Velvet City'

The Arch is delighted to present Dutch painter Inez de Brauw. Her instantly recognizable black and white paintings are composed of fragmented and clashing interior design patterns. Inspired by Foucault's thoughts on the existence of distinctive time periods, De Brauw tries to visualize the transformation and appropriation in between these time periods, by painting diverse patterns and using various painting techniques within a single work. Windows are skillfully represented by threads, and in small scale works like this, the total work functions as a window, through which you can sneak a peak of the past.
